Metal Gear is a video game series that was designed by Hideo Kojima for the Nintendo Entertainment system in 1987.  Because of its huge popularity, the Metal Gear franchise has spawned several spinoff games which have become extremely popular both in Japan and the United States.

Rumble Roses is an all girls wrestling video game that was published in 2004 by Konami.  Rumble Roses contained several wrestling venues such a highly suggestive mud wrestling sequence.  The games were heavily criticized for using suggestive sexual moves and positions to sell the series.  Both MSG and Rumble Roses games have developed a large cult following and have had several doujinshi hentai parodies made of each series.

On March 22, 2005 video game programmers at the Santa Monica division of Sony Computer Entertainment did something that no one believed possible:  They created a highly graphic video game for the aging PlayStation 2 gaming system.  The game was based on Greek mythology and had as its primary character a man called Kratos. Kratos was a muscular fighting machine that wielded dual chained swords as his primary weapons.  While it is true that the Japanese doujinshi were quick to create several God of War hentai galleries, the video game itself had very risque sexual scenes that had to be censored before the game’s release.

In the past decade the Japanese art form known as hentai has grown in acceptance and has gained worldwide popularity.  In Japan it is not unusual for popular television shows and movies to be converted into hentai by the independent artists and producers known as doujinshi. The Japanese slang word ‘hentai’ is applied to any materials (either printed or video) that have sex as the main theme and display explicit sexual acts.

In 1988 a film called Die Hard became an international blockbuster.  Starring Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman the movie was both a critical and commercial success which propelled the movie careers of both Wills and Rickman.  Based on a book by Roderick Thorp (Nothing Lasts Forever) the movie inspired three additional sequels which in itself is highly unusual.

Japanese hentai has become a very popular art form that has crossed both national and cultural boarders.  Hentai is the Japanese slang word for any material that has sex and sexual situations as the main theme.  Hentai has grown to the point where it has crossed over from traditional Japanese topics and series to popular non-Japanese characters and even television shows.
